Pilates and Pregnancy
Pilates is one of the best exercises to do before, during and after your pregnancy. As with all programs, you should first check with your Doctor or Midwife before beginning any new program. One of the reasons Pilates and pregnancy go together so well is that Pilates is great for building core strength. If your abdominals, back and pelvic floor (Kegel) muscles are toned, they will support and nurture a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery. Pilates is also a great way to get your figure back after your baby is born.
Get Good Instruction
If you have never done Pilates before, it will be important for you to find a pre-natal Pilates class or an instructor who can give you the one on one attention you will need. It is NOT recommended that you begin doing Pilates on your own with books or videos. Even with a Pilates background, it is still recommended that you work under close supervision during your pregnancy. All women respond to their pregnancy differently. At Fit First Pilates Marin, our qualified instructors know about the anatomical and physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and can modify any exercise or program to fit your individual needs. All sessions held at our Corte Madera location right off Hwy. 101 in Marin just 20 minutes from San Francisco and 35 minutes from the East Bay and Sonoma.

What’s happening to my body?
During the course of pregnancy, the abdominal muscles will stretch to over 50% of their original length. Strengthening the abdominal muscles is critical during pregnancy to help support the growing uterus, decrease lumbar compression and reduce pelvic pressure. Woman who practice safe abdominal strengthening during pregnancy have less low back pain, less pelvic pain, better mobility, easier deliveries and faster recoveries.
