Pilates and Pregnancy
Pilates is one of the best exercises to do before, during and after your pregnancy. As with all programs, you should first check with your Doctor or Midwife before beginning any new program. One of the reasons Pilates and pregnancy go together so well is that Pilates is great for building core strength. If your abdominals, back and pelvic floor (Kegel) muscles are toned, they will support and nurture a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery. Pilates is also a great way to get your figure back after your baby is born.

PregnantWomanIf you have never done Pilates before, it will be important for you to find a pre-natal Pilates class or an instructor who can give you the one on one attention you will need. It is NOT recommended that you begin doing Pilates on your own with books or videos. Even with a Pilates background, it is still recommended that you work under close supervision during your pregnancy. All women respond to their pregnancy differently. At Fit First Pilates Marin, our qualified instructors know about the anatomical and physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and can modify any exercise or program to fit your individual needs. All sessions held at our Corte Madera location right off Hwy. 101 in Marin just 20 minutes from San Francisco and 35 minutes from the East Bay and Sonoma.

” Fit First Pilates is the place to go to create the functional fitness that pregnant women need for a healthy pregnancy and labor/delivery experience. I was someone who has always been plagued with injuries… and I had no pain during pregnancy! The instructor was so knowledgeable about pregnancy and labor/delivery – she made sure I was comfortable, modified my workout to prevent overstretching of changing ligaments, and added new strengthening exercises to prepare for labor/delivery. In fact, during my delivery, my OB complimented me on being particularly strong and in tune with my body… a tribute to the pregnancy Pilates that I received at Fit First. Worth the investment…” Julie – PhD
